Young Adult Readers

The Texas Bluebonnet Award (TBA) reading program was established in 1979 to encourage Texas children to read more books, explore a variety of current books, develop powers of discrimination, and identify their favorite books. Students in grades 3-5 participate in choosing the winner of the Bluebonnet Award.

Lone Star Books are a group of books chosen by librarians across the state of Texas to encourage kids in grades 6, 7 and 8 to explore a variety of books.

Tayshas books are recommended books for high school students.  These books are chosen by the Young Adult Round Table (YART) members of the Texas Library Association every year.  The YART members have certain criteria they follow to choose books. DHS Library has a display of Tayshas books by the movie display.  All Tayshas books in the library have a bright green dot on the spine of the book.  Some of these books have book trailers to go with them.

Tayshas Talk is a cool website all about Tayshas.

Graphic Novels are written in comic book format. These have become very popular in the last few years. The graphic novels on this list have been voted as the best in this category. We have many of these in the DHS Library.

Lariat books are adult fiction books that are recommended by the Texas Library Associotion (TLA).

Shelfari   Shelfari is a great way to organize all the books you read.  You can also join groups and have great book discussions.
