Greetings,

It is a pleasure to be your 6th -8th grade Isteam teacher(s). This will be an exciting 2018-2019 school year to learn and explore with you.  Hopefully you had a great summer! It is time to get to work with incorporating project base learning into the classroom. This will be the year that we as Educators and students maximize success through collaborative learning.

PBL provides opportunities for teachers to mold students into competitive and competent global citizens. These PBL students develop skills such as

Key points for PBL:

  • Increased student control over his or her learning
  • Meaningful activities with real-world application and products
  • Rigorous learning at high levels of blooms taxonomy
  • Interdisciplinary learning
  • Teachers serving as coaches and facilitators of inquiry and reflection
  • Students working in pairs or groups
  • Directly teaches 21 st Century Skills like Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication

 

Classroom Norms:

 

  1. Daily procedures – check the board for what you will need for the day and complete the bellringer. If you are not in your seat when the bell rings, you are late. TEKS, the learning objective, daily agenda, home/class assignments will be posted on the board.
  2. No Gum/Food – You are allowed a water bottle in class.
  3. No Restroom unless emergency. You have 5 minutes between class to take care of business and get back to class.
  1. Tutoring – I am available if you are having a hard time in class. Please see me and we can arrange a time before or after school.
  2. Grading Policy – You will have 6-10 daily grades that will account for 40% of your grade and you will have 2-3 test/project grades that will account for 40% of your grade. 20% of six weeks average will be journaling, labs, and participation.
  3. Late work – Expect homework at least twice per week. Late work turned in after the assigned date to turn in will result in a grade no higher than 70%. To receive the 70% all answers must be correct or it will reflect in your grade.  1 day late - highest grade to receive 70%, 2 days late - 60% maximum grade, 3 days late - 50% maximum grade.  
  4. Absent Work – If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get the work you missed from the folder. If you missed 1 day you have 1 day to get your work back to me, missed 2 days you have 2 days to get your work back to me, etc…..
  5. No Makeup Work – If you make below a 70% on a daily assignment or homework you cannot make up or correct the low grades.
  6. Extra Credit – There will be some extension activities or extra credit opportunities throughout each 9 week grading period.

 

Tests – You will take a test after EVERY unit! Students will have only one chance to make up a test if they fail the first time or recently absent on the day of test. Cheating – If you are caught cheating it is an automatic “0”

* Severe offenses will be referred to the assistant principal immediately!

 

 

Dismissal  - The bell does not dismiss you….do not leave your seat, I will give directions for when you are able to leave the classroom.
